Teaching Experience:

Dr. Vikrant Kale has been actively involved in teaching the medical students on the bedside, wards, clinics, and in the tutorials. He enjoys being proactive with students and have had good feedback from them. He was a trainer and was medical lead for the ALERT course in Kilkenny (Acute Life-threatening Event Recognition and Treatment). He also organized ‘Train the trainers’ courses for ALERT and Along with Prof Courtney he was involved in the process of rolling out the COMPASS course, which is a part of the Acute Medical Programme in Ireland.

Dr. Vikrant Kale has done the trainers course for same. He is a trainer for the PEG management course for all the medical and allied health care staff in St Luke’s, Kilkenny, and also involved with the training of colorectal ANPs (Advanced Nurse Practitioners) in University College, Dublin.

Management Experience:

Dr. Vikrant Kale was the Lead NCHD (Non-consultant hospital doctors) for St Luke’s hospital, Kilkenny and he involves leading the NCHD forum and improving communication between the NCHDs and the hospital management. He can implement significant changes to improve working conditions for his fellow NCHDs and improve the efficiency of the hospital. His trainee representative for RCPI at Beaumont hospital for the year 2015/16 and was a member of various hospital committees – Endoscopy users group, Open disclosure committee, and Transfer of tasks committee.

He was the medical lead on the committee to oversee the transition of patients on Infliximab infusion from a hospital infusion suite to a community infusion unit in Beaumont hospital. As an SpR, he played an important part in the management of the medical team and supervision of the interns and SHOs, as well as a delegation of duties. He was the person responsible for making the schedule for journal clubs, holiday rosters, and other intra-team organization.

Dr. Kale’s responsibility involved actively liaising with different departments in the hospital like Radiology, Cardiac diagnostics, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, etc. He learned the skills to help manage interactions with medical and non-medical personnel, patients, and their families; conflict management, stress management, time management, and importantly work-life balance.
